Men in Trees Watch/siting in Squamish

November 9, 2006

I woke up this morning and read in the Vancouver Sun that there was a rare astonomical event happening today - that Mercury would monentarily cross the sun and that there would be a mini-eclipse.  As a somewhat follower of astronomy/astrology I always view Mercury with suspicion - don’t make any plans, arrangements, deals when Mercury is retrograde (my modus operandi).

All too long a story but I put E-dog in the car and brought her to my workplace after lunch.  As other colleagues have been ticketed and towed where I parked, I live in fear of a similar fate so I went out to say hi to Ella and move the car at about 2  pm (BC time).  I had noticed that some major film production was taking place in downtown Squamish (wardrobe trailers and all) when I took Ella out for a jaunt in the Squamish central park at lunch time but didn’t think that much about it.  So, I’m pulling out of the work parking lot and I see "Gerry" in my mind walking down 2nd Avenue in Squamish.  I am about to yell out the car window - good show, Gerry!  Good thing I didn’t, not that I care if I am labelled a goofus in Squamish (cause I am!)  So ‘Gerry’ or ‘Jerry’ from ER is now ‘Ben’ on Men in Trees.  I guess I should have yelled Ben and Gerry - great job!  The really funny thing for me was that there is a vet./chiro. shop across the street, a ‘romance’ shop and then perhaps a organic coffee shop - I lost sight of him between the vets and the coffee shop!

So welcome to Squamish Abraham Benrubi as ‘Ben’ in Men in Trees and ‘Gerry/Jerry’ on ER!  It was really lovely to see you in town.  As a long-time fan of Canada’s "North of 60" I would have liked to see your colleague on Men in Trees hitting the streets of Squamish!  But good on you - Squamish needs the retail business not to mention the gossip!
