Caroline - India update

July 8, 2006

Update on Caroline’s volunteer experience in India.  She will be in New Delhi (Guragaon to be specific) and will be volunteering in two different orphanages, hopefully teaching english/literacy - and working with fabulous kids with www.snsf.org   Suresh Bhalla, a very generous man from Toronto, is paying for everything.   SNSF looks like it does great economic and social justice work, especially in the area of women and equality.  I did a quick google of Suresh Bhalla and amongst other endeavors it appears that he is the Executive Producter of Deepa Mehta’s film shot in New Delhi:  Fire.  Wow!  It is incredible that individuals with resources can offer someone like Caroline (my niece) such an enriching life experience.  I am very grateful for this generosity.

FAMILY MOTEL

This from the IFCO newsletter!

Have you ever wanted to be in a film?

We are looking for non-professional actors and participants for a drama about families who are struggling to pay their rent. We are looking for English speaking women, men, teens, and children of all cultures and backgrounds.

Memorizing lines won’t be necessary - all the roles will be played out as if they are happening in real life, without set lines.

The National Film Board of Canada and Instinct Films of Montreal will produce the film. The creative team behind the project has many films and awards to its credit, and is known for making powerful films and TV programs about community concerns.

We will film in late August until mid September in Ottawa. Participants will be needed for one or several days, or in some cases, a week or two. All participants will be paid.
